South Korea’s Samsung: Annual Results Versus a Record Quarter
Understand Samsung Electronics’ 2025 annual and fourth-quarter figures, and avoid treating one quarter as a full-year financial ranking.

A striking quarterly headline can dominate the conversation about a company. Before comparing businesses, check whether the number describes three months, a full year or a single division. Samsung Electronics’ 2025 release provides an example.
The annual and quarterly snapshot
Samsung Electronics reported 2025 annual revenue of KRW 333.6 trillion and operating profit of KRW 43.6 trillion. For the fourth quarter, it reported revenue of KRW 93.8 trillion and operating profit of KRW 20.1 trillion. These are the figures in the company’s official results release.
Why the time window matters
A quarter is part of a year, not an additional amount to add to the full-year total. Equally, multiplying one quarter by four is not a reliable description of the year that actually occurred. Use the annual figures for an annual comparison and the quarterly figures for a quarterly comparison.
Keep the currency unit visible. A trillion won, a billion dollars and a billion euros are not the same unit. This article preserves the reported currency rather than introducing an exchange-rate conversion without a stated date.
Financial scale and the customer experience
A whole-company operating result does not measure a particular customer’s experience with a particular device or service. To evaluate a purchase, check the product, local service availability and terms relevant to that transaction.
A broader financial review would also examine cash flow, assets, liabilities and segment performance. The two headline figures alone should not be turned into a universal score of safety or quality.
What about stock-market performance?
Business earnings and market returns need separate comparisons. A statement that a company reported substantial operating profit is not evidence that its shares outperformed every competitor over a chosen period. This article provides no live share-price ranking.
